KURNOOL: The fortnight-long kidnap drama ended on a happy note with the police rescuing three-year-old Jeffrey from a kidnapper couple at Hyderabad on Monday. The boy was restored to his parents Varaprasad (teacher) and Prameela in the presence of B. Malla Reddy, SP, and Inspector V.V. Naidu, who investigated the sensational case, on Monday night. The kidnapper, who was identified as Javed of Nandyal, was arrested at an ATM kiosk in Hyderabad, leading to release of the boy unharmed. Mr. Malla Reddy said the bank account number supplied by the kidnapper and cell phone conversation helped the police trace the boy after a 10-day chase.
Unsuccessful search
According to reports, the boy was abducted by Javed on January 15 near his residence in Srinivasanagar in the city. After an unsuccessful search, the parents approached the police for help. The police were clueless for a long time. However, the kidnapper contacted the parents with a demand of Rs. 1 lakh to set the boy free and asked for the money through online transfer. He supplied bank account numbers. In the first instalment, he sought Rs. 15,000. The police delayed money transfer so that he would call again from the place close to the ATM he intended to withdraw the money from. As expected, the kidnapper called from a public phone near Mozamjahi Market in Hyderabad. The police caught him while withdrawing the amount from the ATM. The kidnapper led the police to a house in Dilsukhnagar, where the boy was detained. The SP complimented the Town inspector V.V. Naidu and his team and the Task Force personnel at Hyderabad for the operation, which required a great amount of patience and skill.
