Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi seems to have a preference for Malayalis. He has 12 of them in his personal staff, including Principal Secretary Kailash Nath. Mr. Kailash Nath is a close relative of Additional Director-General of Police V.R. Rajeevan. The senior bureaucrat was part of Mr. Modi's retinue when he arrived in the city for the Hindu Maha Mela on Monday. Mr. Modi himself was full of praise for the Malayali diaspora in Gujarat. He said the lakhs of Malayalis in Gujarat had a large stake in the State's development. Mr. Modi began and ended his speech in Malayalam, prompting the large crowd of RSS and BJP workers at the venue to break into applause.
