MANGALORE: The two-day Children's Carnival organised by the Pilikula Nisarga Dhama Society (PNDS) from February 3 at Pilikula will showcase facilities for exploring science, adventure, heritage, environment, and have avenues for entertainment. According to PNDS executive director J.R. Lobo, on both days interesting activities such as film show, trekking, animal and reptile viewing will be organised. The science centre will have science models on display. Visit to the arboretum, heritage village and demonstration of production of traditional items by artisans will also be part of the show. The children will be exposed to concepts such as vermiculture and greenhouse. Entertainment programmes, including mimicry, magic show, dance and music show will be on the cards on both days. The new amphitheatre, Kids Lab, and an artisan's exhibition centre "Parampara" will be inaugurated on the first day. The special feature of the Kids Lab, which has been contributed by the BASF India Limited, is that children will be able to conduct their own experiments in chemistry. The science centre will also have a trade fair of low-cost science experiment kits, organised by "Thirdwave" of Pune.
Demonstrations
Also to be held are demonstrations of experiments in electricity and magnetism by Vishweshwaraiah Technological Museum, Bangalore, and 30 scientific experiments by the Agasthya Foundation, Bangalore. A series of demonstrations on computer science will be organised by the National Institute of Technology, Surathkal. Kite flying as well as kite sales have been arranged.
Learn mask making
The Chitra Kuteera programme will allow the children to create a large drawing together. There is also a demonstration and workshop on mask making and a demonstration of remote-controlled flight of helicopters. On both days, drawing competitions will be held for students of two groups in two divisions from 4th to 9th standards at the Pilikula Biological Park. The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) will organise a quiz in four levels, says Mr. Lobo.
