Elaborate arrangements for temple kumbabishekam

200 Bhattacharyas perform yagnas at the temple

VILLUPURAM: Panchavatee, an idyllic hamlet on the Tindivanam-Puducherry National Highway where the Panchamukha Anjaneya temple is situated, has been reverberating with the Vedic chantings for the past six days.

As many as 200 Bhattacharyas are reciting the slokas from the four Vedas — Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharvana Veda — in the yagasala with scores of kundams put up in the specially erected pandal in front of the temple.

The yagna will go on till the Maha Kumbabishekam to the main deity starts at about 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police outpost

Deputy Inspector General of Police Vanniya Perumal and Superintendent of Police K.Periaiah have set up a police outpost at the temple, and mobilised a strong contingent consisting of one Additional Superintendent of Police, seven Deputy Superintendents of Police, and 500 personnel.

Mr Periaiah told The Hindu that the anticipated turnout on the kumhabishekam day would be 75,000-one lakh people. Home Guards and volunteers would also assist the police.

If warranted the traffic on the national highway would be diverted through two alternative routes locally, not far away from the temple. Barricades have been put up on either side of the roads for regulating the devotees, Mr Periaiah said.

T.R.Rajagopalan, a senior advocate from the Madras High Court and a Trust member, said the Trust members, their friends and relatives were fully involved in the arrangements.

The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd has set up a temporary microwave tower with 30,000-line capacity to enable the mobile phone users to get uninterrupted and clear signals.
