ERODE: "I send my children to school in time and my husband to work thanks to LPG connection," said Sivagami of Rajajipuram, Erode. She said she was presented with an LPG connection on January 14, a day before Pongal. Sivagami said earlier she was spending Rs. 525 a month on kerosene and firewood apart from the 10 litres of kerosene provided by fair price shop. Her children were attending the school late and her husband used to go to work without taking breakfast since he had to be present for duty at 8 a.m. He was also spending Rs. 40 for the breakfast. Now the situation has changed. She is able to save around Rs. 250 a month. Another woman Savithiri, a cobbler, said hitherto she was using the kerosene stove to prepare food for her family members. Now she is able to concentrate on her business. Free distribution of LPG connection is a boon to women. They have been saving a minimum of Rs. 200 a month.
