Tributes paid to Mahatma Gandhi

HUBLI: The Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation observed the 59th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi as "Martyrs' Day" here on Tuesday.

Freedom fighter S.V. Tembe garlanded the statue of Gandhi in front of KIMS hospital and paid tributes to the legend.

Addressing a function organised as part of the martyrs' day, Mr. Tembe stressed the need for following the principles of Gandhi. M.G. Hiremath, director of Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences announced that freedom fighters would be given free treatment at KIMS hospital.

Ramu Mulagi and troupe rendered "Gandjijiya Haadugalu" and bhajans on the occasion. Shankar Yadavad welcomed the gathering and S.S. Phatke proposed a vote of thanks.
