HUBLI: Members of the Dharwad Unit of Rashtriya Basava Dal have urged Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti to issue a Government Order on removing egg from the midday meal scheme. A delegation of the dal met the Minister at his home office here on Tuesday and urged him to take requisite steps. President of the Dharwad unit Siddanna Nategal, general secretary Devendrappa Ingalahalli, president of the youth wing of the dal K.S. Korishettar and others discussed the matter with the Minister. They urged Mr. Horatti to take up the issue in the next cabinet meeting. They also wanted to know what alternative steps the State Government plans to initiate in order to retain the Rs. 45 crore grant given by the Union Government for giving eggs under the midday meal scheme. The Minister said the State Government was contemplating including milk instead of egg under the scheme. However milk was comparatively costlier and the issue would be discussed in the cabinet meeting, he added. K.S. Korishettar said the dal would take steps to prevail upon the Government to issue the order revoking the one on including eggs under the midday meal scheme.
