BELGAUM: The Swadeshi Vijnana Andolana (Karnataka), a unit of Vijnana Bharati is likely to bring out the first edition of a science dictionary in Kannada by the year-end. Disclosing this here on Tuesday, general secretary of the andolana H. Ramesh said eminent personalities with science background like G.T. Narayanrao and Laxman Rao were working hard and are likely to complete the task for the first edition before December this year. Highlighting the objectives of the andolana, Mr. Ramesh said the organisation had embarked on a professional "Science Movement" going on in several states. The major objective was to disseminate knowledge of science in Kannada for better understanding among the masses. Besides, the andolana aims to popularise traditional indigenous sciences including Ayurveda. Scientific work in English and other languages were being translated into Kannada. So far, two volumes have been published and distributed free in schools and colleges all over the State.
Conference
Professor Anit Kumar said the 3rd Kannada Vijnana Sammelan, Karnataka Science Congress would be organised at Kuvempu University premises in Shimoga from September 15 to 17, coinciding with the birth anniversary celebrations of Sir M. Visvesvaraya.
Scientific papers
Those interested in presenting scientific papers should send an abstract of the paper both in English and Kannada by e-mail, a soft copy in CD and a hard copy. It should be accompanied by registered form with fees before July 15, 2007. The full text of the paper in Kannada (about 10 pages, double line spacing) should also be sent by e-mail to svak@vijnanabharathi.org or vasu@vijnanabharati.com, as well as a soft copy in CD along with a hard copy and a photo before August 15, 2007. The best papers presented by women, young scientists and research scholars would be rewarded. Participation was only for registered delegates for a fee of Rs. 500 in case of an institution and Rs. 300 for individuals. Former Vice-Chancellor of Madurai and Cochin universities and retired professor from Indian Institute of Science professor K.I. Vasu and professor (retired) Anit Kumar were present.
