TIRUCHI : Whenever the traffic congestions and substandard sanitations put them off, the hospitality offered by Indians is enough to enliven the spirits of the five Brazilians, who were part of the Rotary International's Group Study Exchange (GSE) team in Tamil Nadu. After an extensive tour to places, including Madurai, Karur, Ariyalur, Bodinaickanur and Dindigul, the visitors reached Tiruchi earlier this week. For Diego Marchese Ritta, a financial analyst, India's culture and tradition are "unique and worth preserving for centuries but lack due attention from the people." The greatest challenge for India is to improve the road conditions, feels an entrepreneur Debora Luciane Giacomet. Carrying herself suavely in a maroon cotton sari, Ms. Debora seem to look at the happy side of Indian conditions. "Your drivers are skilled. There are loads of cars, bicycles, two-wheelers, cows and dogs all over the roads but they still manage to drive without bumping into them," she says. Rita De Cassia Cogo, an executive assistant, says rules seem to be given a go-by in the country. Though the political system of India differs from Brazil, which has a presidential rule, countries have corruption in common, says a practising lawyer, Jacimar Luciano alar. Leading the team is the Rotarian Fernando Luiz Zanchet, who finds his first trip to India quite "fascinating and interesting." Throughout their travel, Brazilians were loaded with gifts and love from all the host families. When asked about the hospitality offered in the State, they reply in unison: "It is overwhelming. People go out of their way to make us feel at home." Landed on January 2, the team is on a one-month tour of the Rotary District 3000, promoting public diplomacy through exchange of cultural ideas and values through participants. The Rotary Clubs of Tiruchi and Srirangam felicitated the visiting GSE team, at a function organised here on Monday. The presidents of the Tiruchi and Srirangam clubs, K. Nilamudeen and P. Somasundaram, respectively and others offered felicitations.
