MUMBAI: Tata Steel, which is entering into an auction for London-based Corus, said its net profit for the October-December quarter jumped by 41 per cent to Rs. 1,063.75 crore from Rs. 753.74 crore in the same period a year ago. Total income increased by 22 per cent to Rs. 4,568.72 crore for the third quarter from Rs. 3,739.28 crore for the same period in 2005. The group has reported a consolidated profit of Rs. 1,054.61 crore in the reviewed quarter of the current fiscal as compared to Rs. 824.76 crore in the corresponding period in previous fiscal. Total income of the group rose to Rs. 6,072.28 crore for the third quarter, while it was Rs. 5,082.38 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal. The company's board, which met to consider the results, is believed to have discussed the strategy to be followed for the open bidding with Brazil's CSN for Corus. PTI
