Doing India Proud

The perseverance shown by Ms. Shetty finally brought fame to her as well as to India. The fact that she never gave up after the humiliation she faced is a lesson for all of us.

Kudos to Ms. Shetty for maintaining restraint all these days despite the turmoil she experienced. Her triumph finally has proved once again that Indian artistes are second to none in most fields.

At last, the Shilpa Shetty episode has ended on a happy note. Through her exemplary conduct in the face of heavy odds, Ms. Shetty made India proud. That she has forgiven Ms. Goody for her behaviour only enhances her image.

Ms. Shetty's victory has evoked a huge response all over the world, thanks to the debate on racism. It also shows that Britain and most countries in the world have to assess their stand on racism. India, too, has to review its stand on casteism and communalism. As a foreigner living in India, I have always felt the need for less discrimination to be shown to the lower classes and the minority groups.
