Sangareddy: The Medak District Congress Committee has announced a `rasta roko' on National Highways 9 and 7 on February 1 in support of the Government's decision for an IIT in the district. DCC president Suresh Kumar Shetkar announced the details of the programme at a press conference here on Tuesday. He said that supporters of the TRS dissident MLA T. Jayaprakash Reddy would also join the agitation on both the highways from 7 a.m. to 5p.m.At a separate press conference, Jayaprakash Reddy and the CPI also announced their support for the proposed `Digbandhanam' of highways. Medak legislator P. Shashidhar Reddy pointed out that the district has been shortlisted for an IIT for the second time. He recalled that in 1959 the district has been considered for IIT but Chennai finally succeeded in snatching it away. The Congress leaders said that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had assured them that the IIT would be located in Medak itself.
