FINDING COMMON CAUSE: TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu (right) calls on CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat in New Delhi on Tuesday.

NEW DELHI: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is making efforts to spread awareness among people to fight injustice especially since the benefits of economic reforms have not trickled down to the lower strata, its leader N. Chandrababu Naidu said on Tuesday.

In an interaction with media, during his half-a-day sojourn here, Mr. Naidu said the TDP was for working with "like-minded parties" in this effort.

Besides meeting the former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala and Samajwadi Party (SP) general secretary Amar Singh, he held discussions with Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Prakash Karat.

Mr. Karat later told The Hindu , that Mr. Naidu expressed a willingness to associate the TDP with the CPI(M)'s struggles against anti-people policies. The two parties were already engaged in such cooperation.

The TDP chief reiterated the demand that the Centre take a relook at the Special Economic Zones Act as farmers were the losers.

He also demanded remunerative prices of farm produce. The policies being pursued by the Manmohan Singh Government could lead to food security problems, he said.

The TDP leader would campaign for the SP in Uttar Pradesh.

He said the law and order situation in the Congress-ruled States was far worse than in Uttar Pradesh. He singled out Andhra Pradesh as one State where it had deteriorated.

    "Vindictive decision"

Mr. Naidu accused the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Government of being "politically vindictive." The decision to issue notice to the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for possession of assigned land was a case in point, he said.

    Chit funds issue

On the Margadarsi chit funds issue, he said the Andhra Pradesh Congress leaders, having gone after the company as part of a strategy, were seeking details of the agreement with Blackstone. This was abuse of power.
