Free professional education for 10 girls from each district

No dearth of funds for development work, says B.S. Yediyurappa


  • Rs. 320 crore for Morarji Desai Residential School
  • `Government committed to ban arrack'

    HASSAN: Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa said the Government had taken a decision to provide free medical and engineering education to 10 talented poor girls in each district.

    Mr. Yediyurappa was addressing after laying the foundation for Morarji Desai Residential School at Ramasagara in Arsikere taluk on Monday. The building would be built at a cost of Rs. 3 crore. He directed officers to complete the building within one year. Mr. Yediyurappa said ever since their Government came into being, sanction was accorded to start 716 primary schools, 500 high schools, 200 pre-university colleges, 116 Morarji Desai Residential Schools, 15 first grade colleges, 110 students hostel and recruitment process started to appoint 23,000 teachers in the State.

    He said the Government had earmarked Rs. 320 crore for Morarji Desai Residential School building construction and in this Rs. 126 crore had been already released. He made it clear that there was no dearth of funds for development work. He said from this year bicycles would be given to boys for which Rs. 45 crore was set aside.

    To fight the female foeticide, the Bhagyalakshmi scheme was launched wherein Rs. 10,000 was deposited in the name of girl child from the day of its birth.

    Arsikere MLA Basavaraju and MLC Shoba Karandlaje were present.

    Ban on arrack

    Earlier addressing presspersons at the Government guesthouse once again reiterated his stand on banning arrack.

    He said at present the Government was getting revenue of Rs. 1,700 crore annually from arrack.
