Gas tanker overturns near Hassan

Staff Correspondent

HASSAN: A tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas overturned at Holethimmanahalli 10 km from Hassan under Alur Rural Police limits on NH 48 on Tuesday. The loaded tanker was going to Bangalore from Mangalore. The accident occurred around 11.30 a.m. As it was Mohurrum festival and a holiday, there was less traffic on National Highway 48 and there were no casualties.

There was no leak of gas and the safety valve of the vehicle was intact.

The police rushed to the spot immediately and diverted traffic.

Villagers said that a minimum of 120 to 25 tankers pass through this road every hour. The delay in starting freight trains service on Bangalore-Hassan-Arsikere-Bangalore route (though the track was ready about a year ago) apparently increased the density of traffic on the highway.
