HP takes lead

Cuttack: Fine rearguard action by the tailenders helped Himachal Pradesh make 405 for eight and take a first-innings lead over Orissa on the third day of the Ranji Trophy Plate Division final here on Tuesday.

In reply to Orissa's 317, HP struggled midway. However, wicketkeeper Ajay Manu (82) and Mukesh Sharma (84) shared a seventh-wicket stand of 114, and later some fine hitting by Ashok Thakur (35 batting) and Sarandeep Singh (22 batting) took it past the rival's total.

The scores: Orissa 317 vs. Himachal Pradesh 405 for eight (Sandeep Sharma 76, Ajay Manu 82, Mukesh Sharma 84). — PTI
