Vinci ousts Hantuchova

TOKYO: Qualifier Roberta Vinci of Italy upset eighth-seeded Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia 6-4, 6-4 in the first round of the Pan Pacific Open on Tuesday.

Vinci, who is 119th in the WTA rankings, won in 1 hour, 19 minutes at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.

Ana Ivanovic of Serbia defeated American Shenay Perry 6-4, 6-2 in another first-round match.
