TAKING STOCK: Telugu Desam team inspecting Pulichintala project work on Tuesday.
GUNTUR: Telugu Desam Party has asked the State government to expedite the execution of works on Pulichintala Multipurpose Project by releasing adequate funds and sticking to the original project proposal. A delegation of TDP MLAs -- Dhulipala Narendra Kumar (Ponnur) and Devineni Umamaheswara Rao (Nandigama) -- along with a host of party workers visited the dam construction site between Wazinepalli and Madipadu on Tuesday and opined that the work was progressing at a snail's pace. Project Executive Engineer D.V.N.S. Sai explained all aspects of the ongoing works to the visiting team and said that Rs.14.50 crores were released so far. The team wanted the State Government to make the release faster and ask the contractor to finish works on schedule.
Sluice gates
Efforts were being made to reduce the number of vents (sluice gates) from original 33 to 24, which should be restored to its conceptual design, the leaders opined. The Central Designs Office had once agreed to reduce the number of vents to 24, but it again wanted the contractor to restore it to 33, which had brought a dispute between the executing agency and the Government leading to delay in works, Mr. Narendra said. The Dispute Adjudication Board had already heard both sides and its judgment was awaited. The Government was not showing interest in completing this project, while it was taking initiative to expedite the Pothireddypadu project, alleged Mr. Umamaheswara Rao.
