GUNTUR: Common complaint from people and students residing in villages between Ponnur and Chebrolu in Guntur district on Tuesday was that ordinary passenger buses were not available ever since the Ponnur bus RTC depot was closed. The Staff and Workers' Federation took out a padayatra from Ponnur to Chebrolu on Tuesday as part of a two-day protest against the closure of the depot and asked people to get prepared for a major agitation if the authorities did not take steps to revive the depot immediately.
Students hit
Some school students said they were getting delayed to their school as none of the ordinary buses in which they travelled earlier ran now and that their bus passes had gone waste. None of the express buses was stopping there, they pointed out. SFW state secretary R. Lakshmaiah said that they were prepared for a sustained agitation if the closure of depots was not stopped in other places. Ponnur MLA Dhulipalla Narendra on his way from Pulichintala tour met the SWF members and expressed the TDP's solidarity with their agitation. He said that they had also began a similar agitation, but people did not come forward then as they could not visualise the loss then, but they would continue the agitation along with the SWF, he added.
