7.17 cr. for Somasila oustees

Staff Reporter

KADAPA: High Court Legal Services Authority Secretary Justice D. Subramanyam said on Tuesday that 2,496 displaced persons of submersible villages under Somasila reservoir would be paid compensation of Rs. 7.17 crores through HC Bench Lok Adalat. The High Court set up Bench Lok Adalats in August last year to settle long-pending cases of families displaced by Somasila reservoir, he told a press conference here. The Lok Adalat held 26 sittings so far and directed disbursal of Rs. 3 crores as compensation to 1,172 petitioners, he stated.

Cheques of 450 more petitioners were ready for disbursal and the remaining ones would be paid compensation within 10 days. The Bench Lok Adalat would be held only once before February 17, the retired HC Judge said and urged petitioners to settle their claims without any expenditure. He lamented that some petitioners approached middlemen and lost money.

Considerable number of cases of submersible villagers were pending in courts in the State, Justice Subramanyam said. He urged revenue officials to issue legal heir certificates to kin of deceased petitioners.

Lok Adalat member Raja Reddy said, cases of deceased petitioners and those going abroad were pending. The Lok Adalat benefited people of Kadapa and saved their time and money.
