KOZHIKODE: The Kozhikode branch of Indian Medical Association (IMA) has protested against the proposal to impose 12.24 per cent service tax on medical expenses.Condemning the proposal, IMA district president A.K. Abdul Khader said here on Tuesday that doctors observe protest day on February 1. He pointed out that the Union Finance Minister had announced that service tax would be extended to medical field in the coming Union Budget. The proposal is that the individual doctor or the hospital giving medical service shall collect from the patient 12.24 per cent service tax in addition to the service charge that the patient has to pay in normal course.
