KOZHIKODE: MP Veerendra Kumar, MP, on Tuesday said there was no change in his views on the Express Highway project that it would be environmentally dangerous and impractical. Mr. Veerendrakumar told The Hindu that he had all along been a staunch critic of the project. It would divide the State into two and was therefore undesirable. Mr. Veerendrakumar's clarification came in response to a statement issued by the president of the Theera Desa Raksha Social Welfare Society, an NGO, on Monday which said the Janata Dal (Secular) leader spoke in support of the Express Highway project while inaugurating a training programme for heavy vehicle drivers it had organised in Kozhikode. Refuting the remarks attributed to him, Mr. Veerendrakumar clarified that the State needed more feeder roads for highways and by-passes and not an Express Highway.
