CHENNAI: The Council for Leather Exports (CLE) has urged the Centre to set up 15 integrated leather parks in the country, along the lines of the integrated textile parks. Speaking on the eve of the India International Leather Fair 2007 that will be held at the Chennai Trade Centre from January 31 to February 3, CLE chairman Mukhtarul Amin said the Council had sought Rs. 400 crore to develop the parks. A proposal had been made to set up two design studios at Kanpur and Agra. This year's fair will be the biggest ever, covering 7300 square metres, with a range of products and services on display. A total of 390 companies from 21 nations will take part. Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dayanidhi Maran will inaugurate the fair. Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh and Tamil Nadu Minister for Labour T.M. Anbarasan will participate. Several seminars and buyer-seller meets are being organised to coincide with the fair, apart from a roundtable conference on the spring and summer 2008 trends being organised by Modeurop, an internationally recognised body that forecasts fashion and trends in leather for the global market. A special feature is a trend pavilion, `India Inspired', which has been set up by the CLE, along with the Central Leather Research Institute and the India Trade Promotion Organisation, to showcase investment opportunities.
