New attractions for tourists at Thenmala

KOLLAM: Minister for Tourism Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Wednesday will lay the stone for a butterfly park at the Thenmala Eco-tourism Project (TEP) complex to mark its sixth anniversary.

He will also inaugurate a `Nakshathra Vanam' which has come up at the TEP. The `Nakshathra Vanam' comprises 27 trees from different species representing the 27 zodiac signs.

The saplings of these trees will also be available at the `Nakshathra Vanam' for sale.

Minister for Forest Benoy Viswom will inaugurate new adventures connected with the TEP.

These comprise camping facilities and trekking and stay at a treetop hut. Adoor MP Chengara Surendran will release a CD on Thenmala eco-tourism.

The sixth anniversary celebrations will begin with a workshop on eco-tourism and local residents. The workshop will be inaugurated by Punalur MLA B. Raju.

The celebrations in the evening will begin with a cultural procession from the Thenmala Dam junction to the venue of the meeting.
