Gandhiji's ideals more relevant today: Azad

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday stressed the need for spreading Gandhian ideology in the trouble torn State and said peace loving people had always resisted the forces of terror.

Speaking in at a function to remember father of the Nation, Mr. Azad described Gandhiji as a real visionary who could peep through the darkness of violence and detect the glittering ray of hope in Kashmir. He said Gandhiji's philosophy of non-violence, tolerance and peace were more relevant today.

He presented Mahatma Gandhi awards-2006 on behalf of the Akhil Bharat Rachnatmak Samaj and the Sadbhavana-ke-Sipahi.

The awardees were Haji Buland Khan, P. Namgial, M.R. Puri, J.R. Rathore, K.K. Khosa, Mool Raj Shastri, G.R. Hasrat Gadda, S.P. Sahni, M.S. Katoch, Abdul Majid Khan, Mohammad Saleem Khan, Joginder Singh Jogi, Peter Celestian and Mohammad Yousuf Shan
