Medical staff protest

Rice procurement

HYERABAD: Civil Supplies Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy has asked district Collectors and officials to take steps to achieve the target of procuring 40 lakh tonnes of rice for this fiscal for public distribution system and mid-day meal scheme. According to a press note issued by his office, he expressed displeasure that only 15 lakh tonnes had been procured so far for the kharif season against a target of 30 lakh tonnes. He asked them to procure the rest by March 31. - Special Correspondent

Concept schools' proposal opposed

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Progressive Recognised Teachers' Union has demanded scrapping of the proposal for concept schools by the Government, as it leads to further neglect and privatisation of primary and higher education. It has stressed the importance of common schools, which would benefit the poor and lead to 100 per cent literacy. - Special Correspondent

Speech triggers protests

HYDERABAD: A speech by K. Sam Paul, secretary, All-India Christian Council, at a meeting organised by the Dalit Freedom Network in Ramayampet of Medak district on Monday, triggered off protests by BJP and RSS. Following a complaint, the police booked a case against him . Christian leaders addressed representations to the Home Minister and DGP demanding that the case be dropped. - Special Correspondent

SRR College closing ceremony

KARIMNAGAR : Closing ceremony of the golden jubilee celebrations of Sri Rajarajeshwara (SRR) Government Degree and PG College of Karimnagar town would be held on February 18 on a grand scale on the college premises.
