HYDERABAD: The Congress Legislature Party has accused the CPI(M) of hatching a political conspiracy in consultation with Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu for stalling development in the State. Referring to its agitation against the proposed Polavaram project, Government Chief Whip N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Whip S. Udayabhanu and CLP Executive Committee member V. Vasant Kumar said on Tuesday that the CPI(M)'s actions were not rational. Polavaram project was essential for linking the Godavari and the Krishna to develop all backward regions in the State, they pointed out. However, the Government had stopped work on the project six months ago deciding to take up relief and rehabilitation first. The families to be affected due to submergence were happy with the package and were accepting the cheques given by the authorities.
Locals happy
This being the case, there was no point in arguing against the projectas the locals were not exactly unhappy with it, they said. The CPI(M) was afraid of the political fall-out of the project as they could lose their vote bank once the backward region benefited because of the project, they claimed. Recalling the CPI (M) Government's land acquisition in West Bengal, they said it reflected the party's double standards. They asked CPI(M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu the reason for his silence on the two open letters written to him by the CLP detailing the R&R package adopted by the State Government here.
