Udhagamandalam: A three-week training programme on anti-poaching strategies for the forest field staff at the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park concluded on Tuesday. Organised under the aegis of the World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature, it was conducted by the Nilgiri Wildlife and Environment Association (NWLEA). The training to 133 anti-poaching watchers of the sanctuary was imparted by Special Task Force (STF) personnel. It included survival skills in difficult terrain, unarmed combat, self-defence and guerrilla tactics. Addressing the valedictory function, the Additional Director General of Police, K. While imparting training the STF personnel also learnt a great deal about forest-related matters. The Nilgiris Collector, Santosh K.Misra, underscored the need for constant enhancement of skills to deal with threats to flora and fauna. The Wildlife Warden, Rakesh Kumar Dogra, spoke. A display of skills acquired during the programme by the trainees marked the occasion.
