Out of Iraq, but still in fear

A. Harikumar

ALAPPUZHA: M.K. Ashraf of Ambalappuzha, who was released from an Iraqi jail on Friday, shivers in fright when he remembers his days in Iraqi police custody.

Mr. Ashraf, working as driver of Public Warehousing Company, Kuwait, landed at the international airport in Kochi on Tuesday morning and reached home in the afternoon. His family members said they were relieved, and thanked the Union and Kerala Governments and a few organisations for enabling his release. Mr. Ashraf said he would return to Kuwait after leave, and the company had promised not to send him again to Iraq.

"Life at the cells of Iraq's police stations is simply terrible for a foreigner," Mr. Ashraf told The Hindu .
