Plea against order on PMC

Staff Reporter

High Courtround-up

Kochi: The State Government on Tuesday filed an appeal against a single judge's order setting aside the Government order superseding the director board of the Pariyaram Cooperative Medical College (PMC).

The appeal was filed by G. Sudhakaran, Minister for Cooperative Society and Registrar of Cooperative Societies, on behalf of the Government.

The Government had superseded the administrative body on the ground that it had no quorum. The appeal said that the judgement of the single judge was against the Act and Rules of the Cooperative Societies.

Bail granted

Justice V. Ramkumar has granted bail to Ajithkumar, second accused in the Kanichukulangara murder case.

The court ordered that he be released on bail on his executing a bond for Rs.35,000 with two solvent sureties to the like sum to the satisfaction of the Judicial First Class Magistrate, Alappuzha.

Granting bail, the court said that pre-trial incarceration of the petitioner for more than one-and-a-half years was too long a period.

Keeping him under confinement as an under-trial prisoner for a long period did not serve any purpose.

Police officers flayed

Justice R.Basant has expressed his displeasure over the failure of police officers to give instructions to the public prosecutors in many cases.

While dealing with a cheque bounce case, the court said that the prosecutor had not received instructions from the police in spite of a directive issued by the prosecutor.

The court also issued a directive to the Advocate General and Director General of Prosecutions to appear in person and explain why the law officers were left in such an unenviable predicament.

The court adjourned the case to February 12.
