No assistance for hapless minor girl

Eight-year-old allegedly raped by an army man

BERHAMPUR : Neither the Government nor the administration have come out to provide financial assistance for the treatment of the eight-year-old orphaned girl, who was raped by an alleged army man at Gopalpur on Sunday.

She is undergoing treatment at the MKCG medical college. She continues to writhe in pain. The pain was so great that she was unable to talk on Tuesday afternoon. Her poor grandparents and other relatives are also going through a major mental agony. Her grandfather, P.Simanchal said his poor financial condition is a major stumbling block for the treatment of the child. He claims to have spent around Rs.10,000 during the past two days on her treatment. Only financial help that he got from outside was Rs.300 provided by an anonymous helper.He had expected that the administration would bear the cost of treatment of the poor child who had to face the inhuman deal.

According to the grand-aunt of the child, who is attending her, no administrative official have come over to take note of their situation till Tuesday evening. They almost beg at the medicine shops at the medical college campus to provide them medicines prescribed for the child with a promise that the payments would be made later.

Meanwhile Berhampur police is continuing its investigation to track down the accused. SP Dayal Gangwar said they have come across many new evidences that would lead to the capture of the accused in a few days.
