Housing Board's Sholinganallur plots sell like hot cakes

CHENNAI : The Tamil Nadu Housing Board's scheme for the sale of 88 plots in Sholinganallur located on Old Mamallapuram Road is a hit.

Monday was the last day for submission of application forms.

A spokesman of the Board said that nearly 20,000 applications were submitted. Even at about 5-30 p.m., officials of the Housing Board's unit in Adyar, dealing with the Sholinganallur scheme, received forms.

(The total number of application forms sold was around 23,000).

The Board has classified the plots into four groups. The area of the plots ranges from a maximum of 3,875 sq. ft to a minimum of 775 sq.ft. In terms of the firm cost of land, it is in the range of Rs. 51.6 lakh to Rs. 10.3 lakh.

According to the spokesman, the allotment will be decided through a draw of lots, which will take place by the second week of February.

On allotment, an initial deposit to the extent of 40 per cent of the firm cost should be made within a timeframe.

Though Sholinganallur is situated outside the limits of the Chennai Corporation, it has attracted a large number of people because several software companies are located on the OMR.

As for the Board's another scheme for the sale of 124 flats in Mogappair, the draw of lots will be held on Wednesday. It has received 220 application forms.

The reason for the less number of the application forms submitted (as compared to Sholinganallur) is that the applicants were required to deposit around Rs. 3 lakh along with the forms.
