Udupi: President of Nagarjuna Virodhi Horata Samithi Pramod Madhwaraj said on Tuesday that the samithi members, who visited Simhadri power plant of the National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd. in Visakhapatnam on January 25, would compile their report in a week. Mr. Madhwaraj told The Hindu that the report would be finalised in the presence of Fisheries and Muzrai Minister B. Nagaraj Shetty since he had lead the team to Simhadri. There were divergent views among the members who visited the thermal plant to study its pros and cons. But a majority of them felt that a coal-based thermal plant would be harmful to fisheries, agriculture and water, and would lead to health problems, he said. The report will be submitted to the State Government. The samithi would wait for the Government's reaction, he said. Mr. Shetty had assured the samithi members that the Government would arrange a visit to Dahanu thermal plant in Maharashtra on February 16 or 17, Mr. Madhwaraj said. The samithi members would decide whether or not they should visit Dahanu within a week, he said. Mr. Madhwaraj could not visit the Simhadri plant, as his flight could not land at Visakhapatnam owing to inclement weather. Manorama Madhwaraj, MP, said that she would go by the team's report. "If there is detrimental effect on sea, agriculture and health, I cannot support a coal-based thermal plant," she said. "I will go to Dhanu, if the Government plans a visit to the plant," she added.
