Single Women's Day on Friday

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The Association of Single Women for Action and Self-Help (ASWAS) will celebrate Single Women's Day on Friday with a seminar on `Women and society.'

The former Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court K.K. Usha will inaugurate the programme at Gandhi Bhavan, Kacheripady. District panchayat president P.S. Shyla will preside. The seminar will deal with issues such as the status of women in society, their role in social service, the problems faced by women, the laws they should be familiar with, and their mental and physical health.

Discussions will be held after presentations by the resource persons on these topics. The seminar aims to highlight how women are the axis of the family and how a more prominent role for them will benefit family and society.

MLAs K.V. Thomas and C.M. Dinesh Mani are expected to participate in the inaugural session.

ASWAS had been working towards making single women self-reliant. It has a shelter home for women and a computer training centre.
