CPI (M) sees pattern in communal violence

NEW DELHI: Seeing a pattern behind the spate of incidents of communal violence in various parts of the country, including Gorakhpur, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday underlined the need for firm action by State Governments to put down communal activities.

Referring to the incidents in Jabalpur, Bangalore, Tirur in Kerala and Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh it said: ``the consequences of the Bharatiya Janata Party's aggressive communal stance at its Lucknow session are becoming evident,'' the party's Polit Bureau said in a statement.

It said a common feature in these incidents was the ``involvement of the RSS outfits," which were observing the Golwalkar birth centenary. In places like Bangalore and Tirur, Muslim fundamentalists caused the provocation, it pointed out.

In Gorakhpur, it said: ``the notorious activities of the BJP MP and Mahant Adiyanath are primarily responsible for the incidents of attacks on the Muslim minorities of the region.'' In many of these instances, the statement noted, the State failed to realise the calculated plan to stir up trouble by the communal forces.
