HYDERABAD: Nearly 20,000 autorickshaws in the twin cities and outskirts ply without paying the road tax and without any other valid documents. Authorities have realised the intensity of the problem only after trying to upgrade software which maintains records of all the autorickshaws and drivers. The Motor Vehicle Act stipulates that it's mandatory for autorickshaws to obtain route permit and fitness certificate every year, besides payment of Road Tax every three months. Of the 65,000 autorickshaws in the twin cities, 20,000 autorickshaws drivers failed to renew route permits and also not paid road tax. Over 10,000 drivers do not even have registration certificates.Joint Transport Commissioner B. Venkateswarlu said two weeks time would be given to drivers to complete all formalities as the process of up-gradation had already commenced. "Autos will be seized and registration will be cancelled if drivers failed to comply with rules," he said
