MCH plans 15 more parking lots

Staff Reporter

Hand-held automatic devices used in 85 places; pre-paid card system fails

  • Revenue from parking lots not even reaching last year's figure
  • Railway officials reject pre-paid parking card system

HYDERABAD: The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad has identified 15 more potential parking slots in the twin cities under its jurisdiction in addition to the 113 in use. But its pre-paid card system continues to flounder with other Government departments refusing to pay ball.

Consequently, there is every chance of revenue from parking lots not even reaching last year's figure of Rs. 1.10 crores, admit senior officials. Money accrued thus far this year has been about Rs. 93 lakhs with Rs. 58 lakhs from sale of pre-paid cards and rest from tickets sale.

Hand-held automatic devices are used in 85 parking places while tickets are issued in 25 parking lots. However, its efforts to convince organisations like HUDA, RTC and others to accept the pre-paid cards on a revenue-sharing basis and non-insistence of a uniform fee did not bear fruit.

    Few takers

The corporation is said to have even given these two organisations quite a few hand-held devices for use. Alas, this too did not work out as parking lots run by private contract agencies in HUDA and RTC offices are not making use of the devices at all.

    Disinclination

The railway authorities and Begumpet airport officials have clearly expressed their disinclination to join hands with the civic body as they have their own mechanisms to collect parking fees, explained senior officials.

It is quite natural there is no co-relation whatsoever with the surging vehicular population in the capital and pre-paid card sales.

The MCH has not even been able to sell 50,000 cards and of late it has stopped publicising about them, probably seeing the writing on the wall.

    New lots

The 15 new parking lots identified are: Jalagam Vengal Rao Park, Lakshmi Narayana Yadav Park (Erragadda), Pantaloon showroom to bus stop (Begumpet), Yellamma Temple to Yashoda Hospital (Secunderabad), behind Hari Hara Kala Bhavan, Bible House bridge to Citylight Hotel (R.P. Road).

Dena Bank to Bata Crossroads (R.P. Road), Chitra Darga to Chimalgi Photo Studio (R.P. Studio),

Alexander Road (behind MCH Sec'bad office), Paradise Crossroads to Plaza Junction, Indira Park second gate, opposite lane of Hotel Minerva (Himayatnagar), opposite lane of Kubera Towers (Narayanaguda), Badichowdi (Sultan Bazar) and Khan Lateef Khan building (Fatehmaidan).
