BANGALORE: A four-member gang allegedly waylaid and attacked a private company employee and robbed him of Rs. 15,000, a gold ring, a mobile phone and a wristwatch in Sriramapuram police station limits on Monday night. The police said that around 10.30 p.m. four men stopped Sathyanarayana, a resident of Papanna Block, near the railway tracks at Jakkarayanakere. They threw chilly powder on his face and assaulted him before relieving him of the cash and valuables. On a complaint by Sathyanarayana, the Sriramapuram police have registered a case.
Man dies
A car driver, who was attacked by an armed gang in Vyalikaval police station limits on Sunday night, died of injuries at a private hospital on Monday. Police gave his name as Anil Kumar (23), a resident of 2nd Main, Palace Guttahalli. On Sunday night, a gang led by Narendra allegedly attacked Anil Kumar with swords and choppers near Palace Guttahalli Circle, the police said. The Vyalikaval police have registered a case of murder and are on the lookout for the accused. Gang rivalry is said to be the motive behind the murder.
Two killed
Two persons were killed in hit-and-run cases reported from Mahalakshmi Layout and Kengeri police station limits. The police said Vishnu (20), a pedestrian, was killed after he was hit by a car near Mylasandra Gate on Mysore Road in Kengeri police station limits around 8.30 p.m. on Monday. The driver sped away after the incident. Vishnu, an air-conditioner mechanic and a native of Kerala, was a resident of Electronics City. The Byatarayanapura traffic police have registered a case. In the other incident, Swamy Rao (55), a resident of Muneshwara Block, was killed in a hit-and-run case in Mahalakshmi Layout police station limits.
The police said that on Tuesday morning passers-by noticed Swamy Rao's body on the road at Pipeline area in MICO Layout. Autopsy revealed that a vehicle had hit him, the police said.
The J.P. Nagar police on Monday arrested five people who were allegedly planning to commit dacoity and seized swords and choppers from them.
The arrested were identified as Ravi (33), Venkatesh (29), Satish (32), Mohammed Ali (29) and Kiran Kumar (20).
Cases booked
The traffic police on Monday conducted a special drive in parts of the city and booked cases against 224 men who were found occupying seats reserved for women in Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-East) M. Abdullah Saleem, cases were also booked against 129 men who were travelling on footboard. Spot fine of Rs. 29,700 was collected from the violators.
The police will continue the drive against footboard travellers and men occupying seats reserved for women in the BMTC buses, Mr. Saleem said in a press release on Tuesday.
