Thiruvananthapuram: Two students owing allegiance to the National Development Front were injured in a clash with Student's Federation of India activists at University College here on Tuesday evening. The police identified the injured as Rafiq (18) and Anas (19). They were admitted to General Hospital here. A case of simple assault was registered against 10 SFI activists in connection with the incident. The police have been deployed in strength in the city, particularly in Palayam area, to prevent any escalation of violence.
Four held
Four persons, including two women, were arrested in connection with a series of crimes against schoolchildren, including robbery, in the Attingal police station limits. The police identified the accused as Firoz Khan (20) of Decent Junction, Joshi (23) of Mana Nakku, Ambili (28) of Kadackal and Beena (26) of Vamanapuram. The police said the suspects threatened schoolchildren at knifepoint into parting with their gold ornaments. They also blackmailed male students by falsely accusing them of misbehaving with women and extorted money from them. The police said the accused worked in tandem. They were produced before the court and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody.
Held on burglary charge
The Peroorkada police have arrested four persons in connection with some recent burglaries in the city. The accused were identified as Babu Kuttan (42) of Sree Varaham, Sajir (28) of Sreekariyam, Rahim (25) of Manacaud and Ari Vilakan (20) of Madurai in Tamil Nadu. They were produced before the court and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody.
