HYDERABAD: A quarrel between teenaged students led to the murder of a degree student in Marredpally on Tuesday. The victim, Rahamat (20), had rushed to Marredpally on Monday evening on being informed that his friend was being beaten up by a group. But by the time he got there, the said group had already left the place. During the search for the group, Rahamat and his friends spotted Rabbani who was allegedly involved in the attack. They caught him after a chase and started beating him up. "Rabbani picked up a stick lying on the roadside and hit Rahamat on his head before running away," Marredpally Inspector K. Karunakar Reddy said. Although Rahamat chased Rabbani for some distance he fell unconscious near Dena Bank branch. He was rushed to a private hospital from where the police shifted him to the Gandhi Hospital. However, Rahamat succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning. It all started with a verbal duel between Mahmood, a tenth standard student of Narayana Concept School, and three Intermediate students of the same area --Teja, Harish and Ravi -- over a petty matter on the Republic Day. On learning about the incident, one of Mahmood's friends reportedly slapped Teja the next day. Later, the students did meet at the MCH ground to bury the hatchet. "But the discussion led to a scuffle. That was when Rahamat was called for help," Mr. Reddy said. Rabbani was taken into custody.
