TIRUPUR: As directed by the Madras High Court, as many as 497 dyeing and bleaching units, all members of 17 common effluent treatment plants (CETPs) here, on Wednesday paid Rs. 27.84 lakh towards fine for discharging textile effluents from their units into the Noyyal river. The High Court had imposed a fine of six paise per litre of effluent discharged by the dyeing factories attached to the CETPs for not attaining zero effluent discharge from January 1 and directed the units to pay the sum by the end of every month.
