KOCHI: East Zone, with an all-win record in the five-team league, won the 36th all-India FCI inter-zone cricket tournament, which concluded at the BPCL Kochi Refinery Ground, Ambalamugal, on Wednesday. Headquarters finished runner-up. Former India opener Devang Gandhi scored an unbeaten 86 (44 balls, 10x4, 3x6) as East thrashed host South by nine wickets in its last league match at the St. Paul's College Ground, Kalamassery, the second venue. At Ambalamugal, Punjab Ranji player Ishan Malhotra's century went in vain as defending champion North lost to Headquarters by six wickets. Ishan, who scored two centuries in the event, was adjudged as the player of the tournament. A.S. Chhabra, FCI's Executive Director (South), gave away the prizes. The scores: North Zone 239 in 40 overs (Ishan Malhotra 104, Ajeej Ranjan three for 49) lost to Headquarters 244 for four in 37.1 overs (Chetan Sharma 89, Anshul Lamba 55. Chanderpal Saini 33 n.o.) at Ambalamugal. South Zone 144 for nine in 40 overs (Seshadri 49 n.o.) lost to East Zone 145 for one in 14.4 overs (Devang Gandhi 86 n.o., Adithya Sengupta 34) at Kalamassery. Principal Correspondent
