MUMBAI: Bengal would be appearing in the final of the Ranji Trophy for the second consecutive year when it takes on Mumbai on Friday. It lost to Uttar Pradesh last year. Two successive finals are a reflection of the talent within the team and the ability to perform at crucial moments. Bengal's coach Paras Mhambrey says: "The lessons of last season have been learnt. The way we came back in tough Super League matches to qualify for the final this time is encouraging. We are prepared."
Teamwork crucial
Mhambrey says teamwork has been crucial. "The seniors have been very supportive, the juniors are thinking cricketers. It is a good mix of players, all of whom have been responsive to my inputs," Mhambrey said. "I have set achievable targets for batsmen, bowlers and for the team in match situations. They have delivered." Having played for Mumbai, Mhambrey now has to work to neutralise his former team's strengths. He has no qualms about it. "You can't be too emotional about playing against Mumbai. I am a professional and enjoy what I am doing," he says. Mhambrey will have middle-order batsman Rohan Gavaskar as a valuable ally. Both have played extensive club cricket in the city and have inside knowledge of Mumbai cricket.
