Probe into bonded labour

Puducherry: The Revenue Department had been geared to inspect, enquire and report bonded and forced labour, if any, anywhere in the Union Territory.

District Magistrate of Puducherry G.Theva Needhi Dhas said in a release here on Wednesday that such an enquiry was mandatory under the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, 1976. ]

Mr. Dhas said that voluntary organisations, self-help groups and other service units were also requested to cooperate in the efforts of the department to eradicate bonded labour in Puducherry. Complaints could also be filed with the Revenue and Police authorities by the voluntary organisations on the existence of the system in the Union Territory.
