Chefs shape giant `burfi' in the colours of the national flag

HUGE ATTRACTION: The larger-than-life `burfi' at Pacific Mall in Kaushambi

NEW DELHI: It was their way of showing their patriotic spirit and an innovative one at that. On the occasion of Republic Day, chefs of The Clarks Inn at the Pacific Mall in Delhi's suburb Kaushambi got together to give shape to a larger-than-life "burfi'' in the colours of the national flag. And they claim it is the biggest in the world.

About 18 people toiled for almost 90 hours wrestling with 350 kg of coconut, 250 kg sugar, 99 kg "khoya'', 25 kg "pista'', 10 kg "elaichi'' and 50 kg fresh oranges to make the giant sweet.

Their "sweet of labour" was displayed on the centre floor of Pacific Mall on a platform specially erected for the purpose.

Special treatment

The "burfi'' was given a special treatment and a barricade was placed round it to save it from hungry visitors. The chef along with his team guarded the "burfi'' zealously until it was cut "formally". Then it was distributed among 400-odd visitors at the Mall. Details about the "burfi'' have been sent to the Guinness Book of World Records.
