Kumaraswamy reacts to BJP leader's charge

  • The issue is the waiver of farm loans
  • `JD(S) list for board posts soon'

Bangalore: The renewed verbal battle between senior leaders of the coalition partners is showing no signs of subsiding.

In an angry reaction to the charge made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president D.V. Sadananda Gowda on the unilateral announcement he made on waiving farm loan without bringing the issue to the notice of the coordination committee of the Janata Dal (S) and the BJP, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Wednesday said there was no need to take anybody's permission to make announcements.

As Chief Minister, Mr. Kumaraswamy said, he knew what to announce and that he had the powers to make things known to the people, who would stand to benefit.

Asked for his comment on Mr. Gowda's charge that Janata Dal (S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda was blackmailing the BJP in administration, the Chief Minister said whether it was "blackmail or whitemail," all these issues would be sorted out at the coordination committee meting.

Asked why he had attended the meeting of the Janata Dal (S) addressed by Mr. Deve Gowda, Mr. Kumaraswamy said he had participated in it as a party worker.

    Defends meeting

He defended his meeting with the former Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party State president S. Bangarappa and said that it was only a courtesy call.

No political importance should be attached to the meeting of the two leaders, he added.

    Board appointments

About issuing appointment orders by the Government to BJP legislators and party workers, whose names were released by Mr. Gowda on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said it would be done at the earliest. Mr. Gowda had also announced the boards and corporations to be allocated to the party leaders.

Mr. Kumaraswamy said the Janata Dal (S) would also announce the names of party leaders and workers for appointment to boards and corporations in a few days.
