Parties vying for co-op urban bank chairman's post

Elections to the chairman's post will be held on Feb. 11


  • A total of 10,905 members to elect 12 directors to the bank
  • The directors in turn elect the chairman through indirect poll

    KARIMNAGAR: With the release of notification for the conduct of elections to Karimnagar Cooperative Urban Bank, the ruling Congress, TDP and TRS parties are leaving no stone unturned to snatch the urban bank chairman post in the elections, which would be held on February 11.

    Earlier, the urban bank chairman was directly elected to his post. But this time around, twelve

    directors would elect the chairman through indirect elections. A total of 10,905 members, including 8,052 in Karimnagar and 2,852 in Jagtial would cast their vote to elect 12 directors.

    Last date for filing of nominations is February 3 in Karimnagar town. Scrutiny and release of final list on February 4 and withdrawals would be held on February 5. Polling would be held on February 11 at Government Women's Degree College premises in Karimnagar town and Government Women's Junior College premises in Jagtial town from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Counting of votes would be held on the same day after 5 p.m.

    The Congress party, which is traditionally occupying the Karimnagar Cooperative Urban Bank chairman's post, is leaving no stone unturned, to retain its seat. DCC president T. Santosh Kumar, Mayor D. Shankar, who is also former urban bank chairman, former Municipal Chairman V. Hanumantha Reddy and other leaders of the town were chalking out strategies for the selection of party candidates for the 12 director posts.

    Out of the twelve directors, eight would be from Karimnagar and the remaining four from Jagtial town. Jagtial legislator T. Jeevan Reddy was entrusted with the job selecting candidates for directors from his town. The Congress leaders are holding hectic parleys with aspirants to finalise the list of directors.
