BERHAMPUR: Three persons died and over 30 were injured when an overcrowded minibus overturned near Lamtaput in Koraput district on Wednesday. The minibus was travelling from Ankadeli to Jeypore when the accident occurred at around 1 pm near Kadam village about 2 km from Lamtaput. Overloading is suspected to be the cause of the accident as there were around 60 passengers in the minibus when it met with the accident. One of its front wheels gave away and it overturned. The owner of the minibus, Santosh Pradhan, the helper of the bus and another youth were killed in the accident. The injured were immediately admitted to Lamtaput government hospital and a private hospital there. Five of the injured were in serious condition and efforts are on to shift them to Visakhapatnam. Koraput MLA Taraprasad Bahinipati visited the spot to supervise relief operations. A resident of Koraput district Ashok Brahma alleged that overloading in small passenger vehicles was a common hazard they had to face every day as very few passenger vehicles communicate between remote tribal pockets of the district.
