BANGALORE: A 45-year-old woman sustained burns after her husband allegedly threw acid on her in Indiranagar police station limits on Tuesday night.
Arrested
The police arrested Syed Shabbir (40), a resident of Tannery Road, and booked a case of attempt to murder against him. The incident occurred at the house of Fathimabi, the victim, at Kadirenapalya. According to police, Fathimabi lost her husband, Arif, seven years ago. She had acquaintance with Shabbir, who was married and had four children. They got married three months ago.
Sore
The police said that the victim was sore over the attitude of Shabbir, who was an alcoholic. He allegedly used to pledge Fathimabi's household articles and used to quarrel with her. The accused had allegedly taken Fathimabi's 17-year-old daughter to Chennai on the pretext of admitting her to a hostel and reportedly kept her in a relative's house.
Quarrel
A fresh quarrel broke out on Tuesday night and Shabbir allegedly threw acid on Fathimabi.
Burns
She received burns on the face, shoulder and stomach. As it was not a concentrated acid, the injuries were not serious, the police said. Fathimabi was treated at the Bowring and Victoria Hospitals and was discharged, the police said.
