To be held at Tamukkam grounds from February 8

MADURAI: Under the banner of `Pride of Madurai,' products that are produced in the southern districts will be highlighted at the 23rd edition of `Ideal Home Exhibition.'

The exposition is being organised by Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA) from February 8 to 18 at Tamukkam Grounds.

Making this announcement at a press meet here on Wednesday, KR. Gnanasambandan, chairman of the exhibition, said that horticulture would also be showcased at the exhibition at stalls provided free of cost.

The exhibition would have about 250 stalls divided into six bays, each comprising only one sector, such as food, electrical appliances or kitchenware.

One bay would be allotted for Khadi and Village Industries Commission's Rural Employment Generation Programme.

"The layout of the exhibition has been changed this year to make it more convenient for customers who look for specific products. Despite initial apprehension among traders, we decided to go ahead as the interests of the customer are paramount," Mr. Gnanasambandan said.

The stalls showing value added products would be air-conditioned, he said.

`My dream Madurai'

Competitions would be held on the topic `My dream Madurai,' under which solutions for problems ailing the city would be invited from students. The best of the models would win prizes and would be to the Madurai Corporation, he said. A model village with all modern amenities would also be established at the venue.

MADITSSIA president P.T. Krishnamoorthy also spoke. An entry fee of Rs. 5 will be charged and parking of vehicles is free.
